Air ***

REVIEW:

Air is a solid movie. This one is different. At a time when so many movies seem to be about familiar subject matter, this is a movie about an untold true story of an amazing deal, that feels pretty original. Young Michael Jordan got courted by, and eventually signed with Nike, to bring us the Air Jordan basketball sneakers. And this came from a starting point where he had no interest in Nike at all, and instead had a first choice of Adidas and a second choice of Converse. Matt Damon headlines the movie as the sales executive who gets his entire company behind him first, and then has to win over Jordan second. It’s a pretty interesting story, filled with a likable cast, and the pace moves nice and  quick. Still, the subject matter is just about a sneaker deal, after all. It isn’t even about Jordan himself. So the stakes aren’t all that high. If you can get passed that, however, this is a fascinating inside look of how an incredible deal and partnership went down.
