Anyone But You *1/2

REVIEW:

Talk about hitting the very romantic comedy cliche possible, this latest one has nothing original or interesting going for it at all. Strangely enough, it was the first rom com released in theaters in ages, and did remarkably well (215 million.) people attribute that to Americas infatuation with actress Sydney Sweeney (and they’re not wrong,) and yet her Madame Web movie did terribly. Maybe that’s because she was playing a buttoned up high school kid in that movie, whereas here she’s playing a full on adult, complete with a very revealing attire.

Yes, it’s true. The fact that this rom com is rated R and features Sweeney the way the world wants to see her, is the only reason this movie was so popular. It certainly wasn’t because the movie was any good. The premise here is about a couple that has to fuse being in a relationship to get others off their backs (in her case, an ex boyfriend, and in his case, to make an ex-girlfriend jealous so she wants him back.)

Everything about this movie is a cliche, from the wedding atmosphere (My Best Friends Wedding, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,) to the way the characters hate each other to the faking it till they make it premise (Much Ado About Nothing, Ten Things I Hate About You.) This is the rare movie where not even any of the dude characters are s little bit interesting. What a waste.
