REVIEW:
First Blood is a solid action movie about a guy who is mistreated by a small town sheriff and all those who this sheriff has working for him. John Rambo is a drifter who wander into town hoping to get a bite to eat. He gets picked up by the sheriff played by Brian Denehy (so great in these sorts of roles, just like he was in Silverado.) The sheriff tries to give Rambo a lift out of town, only Rambo comes right back. That’s when they book him and try to give him a shave.
That’s the part that’s a little strange. That they try to clean this guy up. Like what do they care how he looks. And it’s the razor coming towards him that sets Rambo off and makes him attack the cops and run out into the woods. That’s when the real action starts as whole squads are called in to find Rambo and take him out.
The movie has three acts to it. The first is the inciting incident, that sets the police against Rambo. The second is Rambo out in the woods. And the final act is Rambo in the town at night, facing off against the sheriff. The third act isn’t quite as exciting as the second, but there’s a lot to be said about the simplicity of this story. And the action is definitely a lot of fun.
