REVIEW:
One of the later great Sean Connery movies, this one is a nineties film noir thriller set in the hot swamps of Florida. It’s the story of a murder investigation, and also of a crime that was solved and concluded and now gets revisited by a man on a mission. There’s corruption and excitement here, and some pretty cool reveals. Both Connery and Fishbourne, as the detective who thought he had the case all wrapped up, are terrific. The movie is pretty good, but it does have kind of a messy ending that goes too far. In an attempt to end with some real climactic chaos, the final twist feels kind of tacked on, whereas the movie could have concluded with a Primal Fear like ending, and left it at that. Still, this movie is definitely intense and packs a real punch.
