Leave The World Behind **

REVIEW:

How do you screw up a movie with such a cool premise? You make it have no consequences. No climax. No resolution. And more of less no answers. This movie has a wonderful tone and fantastic music. It feels like a combination of Hitchcock and M Night Shaman, which is a pretty sweet sandbox to be playing in. The movie treats its story like a mystery with weird things happening all around our characters, at a slow and steady pace. Everything start shutting down all around them, and for Hawke and Robert’s characters, they find themselves stuck in a house with two strangers (Mahershala Ali and his daughter,) who claim to be the owners of the house. It’s a fine enough jumping off point, but nothing of any consequence happens. The whole movie we keep waiting for something to happen. For there to be a big twist. Maybe these two people who showed up aren’t who they said they are. Maybe our main couple will unfaithful to each other, with the new people who showed up. None of it happens. The momentum is there, but the follow through just doesn’t deliver..
