The Flash **1/2

REVIEW:

A movie that attempts to be as nostalgic and full of Easter Eggs as Spider-Man: No Way Home, this DC version can’t even come close to pulling it off. Once again, Marvel has gotten there first. They got there first with the cinematic universe of linked movies, then with their team up film, and now with their multiverse movie, that brings in iconic incarnations of a popular character from the past. In this case, it’s Batman, being used throughout this movie to bring the nostalgia. It’s the Ben Affleck version in the early parts of this Flash movie, and the Michael Keaton version in the later parts.

But what about the titular character, The Flash, himself? Unfortunately that character, played by Ezra Miller, is not very interesting. Miller tries for comedy at all times, and most of his attempts aren’t very funny. The Easter Egg references are the best part of this movie, not just with Batman, but also Superman. But when the Easter Eggs are more interesting then the character or story of the film itself, you know there’s a problem. The story, about using time travel to undo something that happened in the past, is hardly original. And while the references here are pretty incredible (Eric Stolz as the star of Back to the Future,) they are hardly enough to make it a good movie.
