REVIEW:
A solid thriller with a hell of a twist ending. This one is pretty good the whole way through with lots of scares coming in the first half as Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer,) suspects the man living next door of having murdered his wife, Rear Window style. She watches him with binoculars and searches for clues, only to realize her mistakes. As it happens this whole story is a red herring and there’s actually something much more sinister going on. This one is a ghost story and a house being haunted story and a murder mystery all rolled into one. The mystery part is where it excels, with Harrison Ford doing a great job as Norman, the husband who wants to support his wife, but can only go so far. In the second half, we realize that Claire had the victim wrong, and a new search for clues begins, this one much more exciting and rewarding than the first. The movie is extremely well made, by director Robert Zemeckis, who is clearly going for a Hitchcock-like feel. He accomplishes it. This one is spooky and thrilling in all the right ways.
