REVIEW:
A fun movie about a Princess who sneaks out of her home, disguises herself, and ends up hanging around with a reporter for a day. This reporter, (played by Gregory Peck,) recognizes the Princess (played by Audrey Hepburn,) but doesn’t reveal that he knows who she is. He’s looking to get the ultimate story on her, and even brings in his photographer friend to join them. The hijinks they get into take them all over Rome.
The movie is light and cute, and that’s one of the reasons this movie has stood the test of time. That and the Roman backdrop and sense of being on vacation there, along with the characters. But the truth is, as far as story goes, this one isn’t that different from your typical Prince and Pauper / Parent Trap, swapping places and mistaken identity kind of situation. It’s the Rome setting plus these incredibly likable two stars that make this movie such a winner.
